the answer is very simple

In the last few hours, many users have realized that they follow the accounts of Donald Trump and JD Vance. The suspicion was that Mark Zuckerberg’s new Trumpian twist had forced users to follow the main faces of the new government installed in the White House. No conspiracy, Meta is just following standard procedures.

In last hours maybe a little panic started to spread out of control on social mediaespecially on Instagram. Many are publishing screenshots and alarm messages because content appeared in their feed that they had never chosen to follow. More specifically let’s talk about Donald Trump’s social profiles And JD Vance.

The conspiracy theory is the most widespread. Many accounts they are accusing Meta of having forced millions of people to automatically follow the profiles of Donald Trump and JD Vance since they became president And vice-president of the United States. The official installation ceremony was held on January 20th. This is not the case, and it is certainly not a sign of Trump’s turning point Mark Zuckerberg. The explanation is much, much simpler. And perhaps users who are used to following them on X presidential accounts they already know the answer.

The problem of institutional accounts

The US government has a series of official accounts on social media. These are accounts they have standard names which always remain the same, mandate after mandate. Specifically, the president of the United States’ account is found on both X and Instagram as @POTUS (President of The United States). That of the vice-president as @VP (Vice President). That of the First Lady as @FLOTUS (First Lady of the United States).

In addition to these institutional accounts, there are obviously the personal accounts of those holding the office. Every four years, barring any problems, these accounts are therefore all reassigned. The present material is deleted and management entrusted to the teams that follow the new institutional figures. In the event that the president is reconfirmed the transition is less abrupt. All material published by the previous tenant is saved on archive accounts. If you want to see the Joe Biden’s post you can find them on @potus46archive.

The problem, as you can understand, is already solved. Those who found themselves following Trump or Vance (Melania has not yet published anything) followed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their institutional pages and not on their personal ones. Maybe we can talk about one a bit hasty procedureMeta may send a notification in these cases. But we are certainly well far from a conspiracy.
