he is also a scammer

The technical name is Recovery Scam. It is the scam that targets victims of other scams, people who are looking for help for recover the money that they lost. In the past we told you about Tudorel’s case on Fanpage.it. The last case was told by. New York Times, who interviewed Nick Jonas. The victim is not him, but his father. The man’s name is not given, we only know what time he is 81 years old. The first scam he was the victim of was one Romance Scama romance scam.

Here we go classic. Romance scams can be organized in different ways but they aim all on the same lever: They create a relationship with the victim and then start asking for money. Very often the request is made for health reasons: “I need the money to treat myself”. Or to facilitate bureaucratic issues: “I need help, my account has been blocked and I have an installment to pay.” In Italy the case of volleyball player Roberto Cazzaniga has become famous.

Nick Jonas’ father had lost in this scam about a million dollars. A note. Many of the comments under the New York Times social networks tried to understand if Nick Jonas was the same as Jonas Brother. It is not specified in the New York Times article but a check on the father’s age cleared away any doubts: Paulkevin Jons Srfather of the Jonas Brothers, has 61 years old. The protagonist of this story has it 81.

They offered me a salary to watch videos on social media, 10 euros for each clip: I accepted

The lawyer’s offer and the second scam

After the Romance Scam came the second scam. A lawyer contacted Jonas’ father saying he worked in the division of the United States Treasury dedicated to financial crimes. Not only that. The lawyer said that he was working on this very case and that he would helped the man recover all his money. Nick Jonas decides to check it out: he organizes a call and then asks to send documents to check his identity and profession. At this point the scam is discovered. In the documents sent by the lawyer there are also images generated with artificial intelligence: he too is a scam. It is not a coincidence but a pattern. It often happens that those who are hit by a financial scam then receive calls of this type. It is not difficult to understand that the origin is the same.

It’s a method called pig slaughter: you try to take away as much as possible from a victim who has already shown himself predisposed to being scammed. Not Alone. A psychological factor also weighs on all of this. If someone has lost a large amount in a scam, they are willing to invest a small amount for the promise of getting that money back. Amy Nofzier deals with supporting victims of scams for AARP Fraud Watch Network. He explained to the New York Times what happens in the minds of the victims: “We are seeing more and more Hospitalization Scams. If they stole a million dollars from you it will be easier to think about investing $30,000 to recover them.”
