The case of reimbursements for the increase in Netflix subscriptions it exploded. According to the Consumer Movement, only in the last few hours, approximately 25,000 people have contacted their association. The data does not specify whether these subscribers, or former subscribers, have only contacted the association to obtain some more information or have directly signed the form made available for those interested in the class action. It all started on April 1, 2026with a public sentence from the 16th civil section of Court of Rome.
The sentence was signed by the magistrates Giuseppe Di Salvo, Maurizio Manzi And Cristina Pigozzo. As can be read from the official document, the increases in subscriptions defined by are declared illegitimate Netflix Service Italy from 2017 to 2024. The possibility of increasing prices is included in the contract signed by users when they subscribe to the service but the court has now defined these clauses as “unfair”.
This ruling, according to the Consumer Movement, leads to two effects. The first is the return of subscription prices to those initially subscribed to by users. It’s not a little. As we reconstructed on Fanpage.it, in 2017 a Premium subscription plan was expensive 11.99 euros. Now it’s expensive 19.99 euros. Almost double. The second effect is the reimbursement of the increases recorded up to this point. Fanpage.it interviewed one of the lawyers who followed the case to understand how to request reimbursement.
Netflix announces refund appeal: how to join the class action if the company decides not to pay
The Consumer Movement form to fill out
In theory, Netflix should contact all its customerssubscribers and former subscribers. However, the company immediately explained that it was against the ruling and is preparing to appeal. Its official position is: “We will appeal the decision. At Netflix our subscribers come first. We take consumer rights very seriously and believe that our conditions have always been in line with Italian legislation and practices.” A position that could make the procedure for obtaining a refund more cumbersome.
The Consumer Movement has already responded to Netflix’s note, suggesting that the company take immediate action Don’t break trust with subscribers. He explains it Alessandro Mostaccio: “If Netflix intends to put the rights of its subscribers and consumers before any other interest, it will respect the ruling of the Court of Rome and provide refunds, saving itself from a massive collective and individual legal dispute that will last for years with consequent damage to its image and trust”.
So. Theoretically with this ruling Netflix should provide refunds. Given the company’s position, however, it seems that the judicial process is still pending quite long. Also because we are talking about substantial reimbursements. A user who has subscribed to a Premium contract from 2017 to today may be entitled to around 500 euros. For this reason, a form has been published on the Consumer Movement platform to participate in the Class Action against Netflix which will start if the company decides not to pay.
We specify it. The Class Action is a class action lawsuit. At the moment it hasn’t started yet. The form, net of personal data, above all asks for information on the subscription status: when it was subscribed, in what way, through which channel and when (or if) it was suspended. The feeling is that the whole thing will, in any case, be fairly long. We leave you an image below that specifically shows the questions to answer.
