Peugeot Polygon Concept it is the concept car that anticipates, with its technologies, what will be B segment cars which the French company will offer on the market as early as next year with the next evolution of the Peugeot 208.
The main technical feature of Polygon is the steering, referred to as Hypersquare. AND’ of type Electronic Steer-by-Wiretherefore without a mechanical connection between steering wheel and wheels but everything controlled electronically by a completely redundant system.
This technical solution has numerous advantages, facilitating maneuvering in small spaces. At lower speeds the steering reacts to inputs by angulating the wheels markedly, so as to allow, for example, making U-turns without having to take your hands off the steering wheel. Increasing the speed changes the response, which becomes less direct so as to facilitate driving precision when required.
Polygon is a car which, precisely because of its name, wants to be offered in different facets. Hence the very high level of customization, with interior solutions that are very original and focus on environmental sustainability.

The choice to use two gull-wing doors made it easier to get on board especially for the two rear seats. The overall construction, despite one length contained in less than 4 metersmade it possible to obtain a very high wheelbase to the benefit of habitability: the wheels are mounted close to the front and rear profiles thanks to both the electric transmission and the lack of the mechanical part of the steering column.
Even in the interior of this concept car we find some design choices that can then be implemented, certainly in a less extreme form, inside future Peugeot cars. An example is the cluster, completely replaced by a vertically mounted screen behind the Hypersquare steering wheel which projects the information directly onto the windscreen offering the maximum possible viewing angle.

The simplest possible design was chosen for the dashboardwith material that is the same as the seats and the possibility of completely transforming the interior depending on the specific version of the car that wants to be developed.
Put to the test, the Steer-by-Wire system proved to be very effective: at low speed it allows you to move the machine with a very small steering angle and, above all, without the need to take your hands off. The rectangular-shaped Hypersquare steering has proven to be practical: the 4 holes present allow you to position your fingers so that it replicates the classic 9:15 position, which is no longer left due to the immediate and very direct response of the steering.

As is true for all concept cars, what is implemented in Polygon Concept does not necessarily mean it will find space in future Peugeot cars. However, we will see the first implementation of Steer-by-Wire as early as 2027, with the next generation of Peugeot 208.
