Many images of him survive, especially taken in front of a screen. There he is, with a thin physique, blocked by a man while another pours a basket full of water on him. Him again, staring straight at the camera as a plastic arrow is shot at his head. And then him, covered in a black substance in the middle of a dirty room with men blocking him and pouring more liquids on him. All live on Kicka platform that since 2022 has been trying to compete with Twitch with almost non-existent moderation and a lower commission on the earnings that reach the streamers’ pockets.
Jean Pormanove died during one of these live broadcasts. A marathon, in jargon, given that from the data that emerged the live broadcast had reached 280 hours. Pormanove was not alone. Live with him there were two other streamers: Safine Hamadi And Owen Cenazandotti. They were the directors of the violenceat least according to what the public saw. They entertained users and organized everything that was broadcast. Now the Nice court has condemned them, both for the violence against Pormanove and for incitement to hatred. 18 and 24 months in prisonand fines from 5,000 to 15,000 euro. All with suspended sentence. The two avoided the heaviest charges, those for manslaughter. According to the autopsy, the streamer died due to health problems, especially heart problems, independent of his life on the platforms.

Kick works exactly like Twitch. In fact, the copy is almost embarrassing. The only actual difference is that while Twitch moves in shades of purple, Kick prefers acid green. The case of Pormanove was already there emerged before his death. His story was cited in an investigation by MediaPart, published in December 2024. A report on Kick’s live broadcasts and the abuses committed against vulnerable people to entertain his audience. Not only that. In the following months the Nice prosecutor’s office had already started investigations into the streamers close to Pormanove and their violence. Charges partially dropped, given that on several occasions Pormanove had clarified to the police that part of the stunts they had been decided at the table. Despite this, some French media report that before his death the streamer had sent a message to his mother: “I’m fed up, I want to get out of here, the other guy won’t let me, he keeps me locked up.”
