WhatsApp is working on a new feature designed to increase transparency within channels: a label dedicated to content created through artificial intelligence. The tool will allow channel administrators to indicate when an update contains AI-generated media, helping users to more easily recognize this type of content.
The feature is currently under development and is not yet available for beta testers. According to what emerged from the beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.26.31.1the company is preparing a system similar to the one already introduced for commercial collaborations.
Recently, in fact, WhatsApp began distributing a label dedicated to paid partnerships in channels on Android and iOS. This option allows administrators to notify subscribers when an update is tied to an advertising or sponsored deal. The new AI content tool follows the same philosophy, aiming to deliver greater clarity on the provenance of published materials.
How would WhatsApp’s new feature that labels AI content work?
The expected behavior is simple: after sharing an update containing a content generated by artificial intelligencethe administrator will be able to press and hold on the message and access the options menu. A new entry called ” should appear hereAdd AI content label“, which will allow you to add a visible indication directly in the message. Once applied, the label may not be removable by users.
The system should mainly deal with multimedia files, such as images or other visual content made with AI tools. THE Text messages created with the support of artificial intelligence could however be excludedas well as texts generated via WhatsApp’s Writing Help feature.
The introduction of this function is also linked to the regulations present in some countries, where there are specific obligations on the declaration of artificially produced contents. The goal is to offer administrators a simple tool to comply with these requirements. The label will not be limited to content created with Meta AIbut it should work with any technology used to generate media, including tools like ChatGPT, Gemini or other services.
