Minimal officially announced on Phone 2the second generation of its smartphone with a physical keyboard, bringing it to Kickstarter in a clear departure from its predecessor. The campaign has already surpassed the $800,000 raised against an initial target of just 100,000, with over 1,200 supporters on board.
The most obvious change concerns the display. The first Minimal Phone featured a 4.3-inch grayscale e-paper screen, designed to reduce distractions; the Phone 2 switches to a panel instead 3.92 inch OLED with 1080 x 1240 resolution and refresh rate a 90Hz. A novelty that significantly changes the usability of the device. The physical, backlit QWERTY keyboard remains in place under the screen.
Sizes stop at 122.6 x 72 x 9.48mmenough to keep the phone pocketable despite the integrated keyboard. The standard model comes in Onyx and Pearl colors, while the Ember variant is reserved for Founder’s Edition with 12GB of RAM. Minimal Phone 2 hardware and pricing
Under the body works a MediaTek Dimensity 8300a chip designed for everyday use without chasing the flagship segment in terms of performance and overheating. Three configurations available: 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage $5998GB with 512GB at 675 dollars (against the standard price list of 699) and the 12GB/512GB Founder’s Edition at $899.
On the photographic front, Minimal Phone 2 features a main sensor from 50MP f/1.8 on the back and a 20MP f/2.0 selfie camera on the front. The battery gives 3,000 mAh supports fast charging at 27W via cable and 15W in Qi wireless mode.
There’s no shortage of them Bluetooth 5.4NFC, Wi-Fi 6E, a side fingerprint reader and dual SIM with a physical slot plus an eSIM. Minimal also retained the 3.5mm jack, two speakers and two microphones, while the USB-C port supports DisplayPort output and USB-C audio for connecting to an external monitor.
To complete the equipment there is a programmable button that can be configured for various functions and an LED indicator to which you can assign different colors for specific contacts or apps. The software remains Minimal OSthe company’s customization built on top of Android.
We clearly don’t know if the deadlines will be respected. The first Minimal Phone, financed on Indiegogo in 2024, accumulated significant delays and only reached end users at the beginning of 2025. For the Phone 2, shipping is set at December 2026but Minimal itself admits that new slippages cannot be ruled out.
