Since today afternoon, September 3, 2026, ChatGPT has been experiencing malfunctions, with thousands of reports from all over the world. Problems with login and image generation. The causes of the down are not yet known.
ChatGPT is in down today 3 September 2026 starting at approximately 4.30pm. The chatbots OpenAI’s artificial intelligence system is not working properly. The status.openai.com portal that monitors the functioning of the AI reports “numerous errors found in ChatGPT and Codex”. Issues reported by users and the monitoring system involve conversations, login, the compliance API, file upload, image generation, and more. In ours testhowever, the company’s chatbot Sam Altman works regularly. Many are experiencing problems. A similar situation was also found with Google’s AI (Gemini) and Anthropic’s Claude AI
The specialized site downdetector.com reports a peak in malfunctions at 04:57, with over 6,300 reports worldwide. In Italy, the urban areas of large cities are mainly affected: Milan, Rome, Turin, Bari, Cagliari, Bologna, Genoa and Venice are among those most affected.
The reasons for the downtime are not known at the moment: OpenAI indicates that “mitigation measures have been adopted” and the resumption of service is being monitored. After the peak at 5pm there was a drop in reports, however at the time of writing there were almost 4,500.
