Huawei could adopt LPDDR6 memory on the next Mate smartphones

Huawei could be preparing to introduce the LPDDR6 memory on its upcoming high-end smartphones. According to some rumors spread in China, the company would use the new sui technology Mate devices expected in 2026alongside the adoption of the new Tau Law chipsets. This would be a major update for the hardware platform.

The indiscretion comes from leaker Weibo FixedFocusaccording to which Huawei would stand evaluating the use of LPDDR6 chips on future flagships. The same informant would have indicated the Mate XT 2 as the possible first model in the family to use this memory. At the moment, however, Huawei has not officially confirmed this information.

The rumors have also fueled hypotheses regarding other devices. In particular, both the new three-screen foldable smartphone and the future Mate 90 series could adopt LPDDR6. The possible choice would place Huawei among the first smartphone manufacturers to use this technology, following a strategy already attributed to Xiaomi for its high-end devices in 2026.

What we know about the LPDDR6 memory that Huawei wants to use

LPDDR6, acronym for Low Power Double Data Rate 6, represents the next generation compared to LPDDR5X and is designed to handle more demanding workloadsincluding AI-based applications. According to the information reported, the new memory could reach speeds included between 10.7 and 14.4 Gbps per pinoffering a significant increase in data transfer capacity.

One of the most interesting elements would be the new channel layoutdesigned to significantly increase bandwidth. The estimates reported speak of a data transfer capacity beyond that double that of the LPDDR5X. A feature that could be particularly useful in smartphones intended for AI processing and tasks that require rapid access to memory.

In the components market, manufacturers such as CXMT, SK Hynix and Samsung they are working on the new generation of memory. Xiaomi is indicated as the possible first company to bring LPDDR6 to its 2026 flagships, also through chips produced by CXMT. Huawei could follow the same path, possibly using memory from the Chinese company. If the rumors are confirmed, the next Mate could therefore offer tangible improvements on the performance front.
