Most of the posts, at least recent ones, are published by users who are present themselves as men. They are all ads. A photo, a short biography and then the requests. “I’m looking for friendship”, “I’m looking for a serious relationship” or “Greetings to all of you”.
At a certain point the photo also appeared in the group’s feed attracted some attention. Simple message: “Anyone awake?”. In the photo there wasn’t the usual elderly man with a selfie with the polo shirt in passport photo style. He was a very young man, in the mirror with tanned arms. The problem? Era Luis Sal.
Class 1997Luis Sal is a creator. In recent months he has been cited several times for the Muschio Selvaggio case, the podcast first hosted together with Fedezthen disputed and now managed by him. The post isn’t really his. On the contrary. From his Facebook profile Luis Sal intervened in the group for explain: “Hello mature women, I have been warned that someone stole my identity to pick you up.”

The scams behind singles groups
The case may seem solved but it’s just the tip of it a more complex system. In recent years, dozens of groups dedicated to dating have sprung up on Facebook. Just search for Mature Women and you will land on other similar groups like Mature Women looking for meetings, further 100,000 members. Singles Travel, over 80,000 members. Woman seeks man, almost 60,000 members.
And you can find dozens of them with the same format. They are groups where users look for meetings, even just friendships. Often populated with users who are not exactly digital natives. Luis Sal’s case is not the only one. With a slightly more trained eye, you can see posts made with artificial intelligence, images of famous creators or profiles that are clearly fake.
The risk is that of ending up surrounded by a romance scam, a romantic scam where the scammer tries to create a emotional bond with the victim behind a social profile. The purpose is to ask for personal datainformation and much more often money.
One of the best known cases in Italy is that of Roberto Cazzaniga, the volleyball player who for 15 years believed he had an affair with a Brazilian model known online.
