now Agcom has started checks on Fabrizio Corona's channel

In the last few hours Fabrizio Corona’s YouTube channel has exceeded one million Of registered. By YouTube numbers it is a lot of. It is the passage that marks the recognition of Golden Button. But how much longer can it last? The Court of Milan had Fabrizio Corona removed from the channel two videos linked to the Alfonso Signorini case and prevented the publication of new content. Now Agcom has issued a press release saying it has started checks on the “Falsissimo web channel”.

It’s not clear on where the checks will be done. Very false is a format by Fabrizio Corona. There is an Instagram profile, here too we are talking about about a million followers. The YouTube channel is currently called Fabrizio Crown. In short, there is various content related to the brand but none exists “web channel” unique, at most an Instagram profile.

Why Agcom has decided to move

The Communications Regulatory Authority decided to start working on Fabrizio Corona after a position expressed byOrder of Journalists. It is a note that was published on January 27signed by the president of the order Carlo Bartoli and by the general secretary of the National Press Federation Alessandra Costante. A statement that supports the decisions of the Court of Milan on the Signorini case.

Mediaset very harsh against Fabrizio Corona: “Freedom of expression is not freedom of defamation, we defend ourselves”

“The sentence that the Civil Court of Milan issued on the case of Fabrizio Corona confirms that there is no right to defame and that even influencers and prominent figures on the internet must respect the law. It is also comforting that the large platforms that make profits by exploiting online hatred and discredit can finally be held accountable for defamation”.

Not only that. In its press release Agcom also refers to the checks on the correct application of the TUSMAthe Consolidated Law on Audiovisual Media Services. We are talking about legislation that regulates various aspects of media content, from the protection of minors to advertising. A text that, based on a resolution dated January 2024, influencers must also follow.

What Agcom can do to Fabrizio Corona’s profiles

In recent years, Agcom’s work on web regulation in Italy has increased. The Authority has been very active on the piracy front, going so far as to close sites that distributed regularly copyrighted content. One of the best known examples is Streaming Communityeven if the platform always reopens with new domains.

Closing a YouTube channel is more difficult. In fact it is not a domain but part of a channel open on a platform. Yet there are precedents, at least for specific contents. In June 2024 the Authority asked YouTube to remove a propaganda documentary on Donbass published by Russia Today.

What was YouTube’s reaction? We have recovered the Agcom press release. The platform, managed by Google, had removed the video and blocked the channel: “YouTube promptly communicated that it had removed the content and videos linked to it worldwide, also blocking the channel”. TUSMA was also mentioned here.
