Skype down today, app problems: why it's not working and what's happening

Problems for Skype, the app dedicated to messages and phone calls does not work. The downturn began at 6pm today. At the moment the causes are not yet known.

Skype stopped working at 6pm today, October 31st. The messaging app also used for calls and video calls no longer responds to user input. It is not possible to send messagesi, make phone calls or send files. Considering the time and type of service, the amount of reports recorded on the portal Downdetector is very substantial.

The downturn does not only concern Italy. By consulting the international version of Downdetector you can see that the problem is widespread throughout the world. On X (formerly Twitter) you can already see several posts reporting the problem. The problem is global and some are already joking about the fact that it could be one prank related to Halloween. Fairly unlikely hypothesis.

What’s happening: reports and ongoing problems

Such a global problem can usually be caused by two factors: a server problem or an update it destabilized the code. In any case, Skype account X is silent. The last post is from September 7 and is a John Travolta meme known on social media as Confuse Travolta. The actor, in the Gif who plays Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction, looks around bewildered without knowing what to do. Prophetic.
