South of Córdoba, near the town of General Levalle, nestled in the heart of Argentine Pampas there is a gigantic one guitara work that preserves the moving story of a Love ended tragically. The musical instrument-shaped structure is called “Estancia La Guitarra de árboles“, which we can translate into Italian as “Estate La Chitarra of treesThe gigantic musical instrument visible on Google Maps was in fact recreated by putting together 7,000 treeswhich gave life to a beautiful tree-lined park of approx 25 hectares. It’s mainly about cypresses and eucalyptus than its creator, the farmer Pedro Martin Uretahe arranged and cared for it for decades with the help of his children. The work began to be planned way back 197947 years ago.
What makes this wooded park special are not so much the dimensions or the accuracy of the various details of the guitar, which include ropes, resonance holekeys and tuners, as much as the sad And romantic story which caused it to arise in the vast e fertile plain of Argentina, the Pampa. The family had already talked about this project, because one day, flying over the neighboring fields, the woman saw a farm in the shape of a bucket for collecting milk. So she came up with the idea that her family’s estate should be shaped like a guitar, the musical instrument she loved. As stated in the official blog of the Guitarra de árboles project, managed by her son Ignacio, however her husband told her that they would talk about it again in the future, due to his numerous commitments. Unfortunately, Graciela was struck by a fatal illness and died prematurely in 1977, without ever being able to see her dream come true.
Two years later, with the help of his young children, Pedro decided to pay homage to his deceased wife by creating the estate now visible on Google Maps, starting to plant small seedlings of cypress and eucalyptus between 15 and 25 centimeters, in the middle of a land where almost half a century ago there was nothing. It was not an easy job, not only because of the number of plants, but also because, being so small and outdoors, they were vulnerable to hares and to others herbivorous animals. It took Pedro five years to finish the planting, but it took even longer to see his project fully realized, with the growth of the trees expertly organized. Moreover, as a young man, he had traveled extensively in Europe and frequented various artists, a source of inspiration. “The profile of the guitar is built with dark green Californian cypresses – we read on the project blog -, the six strings are made of medicinal eucalyptus with a characteristic bluish tone. The bridge, as well as the star that decorates the sound hole, are outlined by pine cone-shaped cypresses”. The spectacle of the guitar trees becomes even more incredible after i rainy dayswhen the colors “become more intense and lively”.

This is a completely different, beautiful work, inspired by one moving and painful story which celebrates the true love. Curiously, as told by Mr. Ureta, the local parish priest “almost refused” to celebrate his marriage to Graciela, because he was convinced that he would not keep the vows of holy matrimony. But the two, with a ten year age difference, instead had a happy marriage with four children, although it did not last long. Curiously, as also indicated by NASA who filmed the guitar with the Terra satellite, Mr. Ureta would never have seen the guitar from above with his own eyes due to the fear of flying, thus settling for the images of others.
