WhatsApp improves two-step verification: it is now possible to set an alpha-numeric password

Written by Jason Miller

WhatsApp increases the security of the app and, in particularmakes the two-step verification login system more effective. For users, in fact, there is now the possibility di set an alpha-numeric password as an additional layer of protection that can replace the six-digit PIN, an option launched several years ago. We remind you that, in the meantime, WhatsApp is working on expanding the payments via app.

An extra level of security

The password for WhatsApp represents an additional level of security, designed to guarantee greater protection for users. This is an optional but very effective system that adds to the other security systems provided by the application.

To set a password, simply log in to WhatsApp and go to the Settings section. At this point, you have to go in Account > Password and set the new access key.

You can use numbers, letters and special characterscreating a complex combination capable of maximizing the account’s protection. In this section you can also add a passkey, now used by a billion users, and an email address for account recovery.

The new password feature is rolling out and will be available via the Android and iOS app in the near future.

WhatsApp, in a blog post, describes this innovation as follows:

Two-step verification offers an extra layer of protection that prevents others from taking control of your account, even if they were to obtain your one-time passcode. Until now it was a six-digit PIN, which we have now transformed into a full password: longer, alphanumeric and even with special characters to make it harder to guess. If you use “123456”, it’s time to update your password.
