The name of the service is Wi-Fi Calling. The way it works is easy to understand. Vodafone has announced that this new option will be active for all customers. Anyone with a Vodafone SIM can now make calls using the data passage through the Wi-Fi system. Specifically, the service is based on technology VoWiFia formula that is the acronym of Voice over Wi-Fi.
In short. The VoWiFi standard allows you to move the voice call to the internet when the network coverage guaranteed by the operator is too low. Let’s take an example. You are on holiday, surrounded by greenery. Choose whether in the countryside or in the mountains. The place you are in has little field coverage but on the other hand the Wi-Fi in your room is excellent.
With the VoWiFi standard you can make your calls without problems. With the normal network, however, you would struggle to hear your interlocutor. Not to mention that you would have to move continuously to find the only point of 20 square centimeters where, yes, your phone can actually connect.

What changes for Vodafone customers
The Wi-Fi calling service was still missing for Vodafone customers. According to the press releases of the main Italian telephone operators, we know that this service has already been active for years TIM And Wind Three. From the July 2024 it can also be used on Fastweb. With the opening of Vodafone the only one left out remains Iliad. Vodafone has been active since January 1st officially merged with Fastweb.
How to activate the Wi-Fi Calling service
To activate this function you don’t need to use an app. And you don’t even need to access the settings. It all happens automatically. The only problem at the moment is the smartphone compatibility. In this first phase the service is active for some smartphone models of Samsung and Google. iPhones and all other brands are missing.
The list is really long: we go from the Galaxy A15 to the Galaxy S25 FE (one of the latest releases). Note: the update also applies to the Fold line but not for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the latest one released. For Google, however, we start from the Google Pixel 7 to get to the Google Pixel 10 Pro. iPhone users currently still have to wait.
